AI and learning lessons from grounding the Boeing 737 Max?

Recommended Posts

That brings to mind a number of debates about the ramifications as we more and more rely on "black-box" artificial intelligence, where there is only arms length human control.

There's been a lot of interesting thought published about this over the last few years, particularly with regards to self driving cars (and the liability for accidents, impacts to the insurance industry, and how they should be programmed to make "moral decisions" such as the trolley problem) and armed drones (for obvious reasons!).

There's also parallels with the flash crashes caused by automated trading algorithms, such as the 2010 crash of the Dow Jones and other US exchanges - although in this case the algorithms were pretty simple and it's arguable that the behaviour should have been predicted.

It will be interesting to hear more about the success (or otherwise) of UK based FinTechs overseas - and also to hear how they are or aren't being impacted by Brexit.

It was interesting to hear that our community partner ClauseMatch is part of a government FinTech mission to Amsterdam this week.

@Christian Thomas - I hope the trip goes well! Is there anything you can share from your involvement in this?
